pickled for christmas
i want every surfboard i lay my eyes on. i want there to be waves the moment i see them and i want to grab them and head out for at LEAST 3 good ones, two of which are frontside...
needless to say chris stopped by this morning fresh from the glassers. we have the envy board. she is 8 feet long and has demensions similar to that of robbie kegals "death dagger" board that al knost rides.
i swear, if it dosen't sell by may, she is mine.
good glassing, good color and the right lines. not your typical nose rider, but a girl that won't mind you steppin up and down on her.
for sale at lightly salted surf mercado. 1000 ocean ave, asbury park, nj. 732-455-3275.
$700. shout me if anyone out there is interested.

checks and balances
sorry it has been a while. the truth of the matter is i have been in the kitchen for the last 3 weeks opening the connected project langosta lounge, phase 3 in the master plan to give us a heart attack. she is big and pretty as hell. people have been showing up, and the feedback so far has been great. thank you to everyone involved, and all who support us. the bar will be open next week, but for now...
a little piece i finished for this week. it all started in a discussion about ron stoner and what he would be doing photographically if he were alive today... it is a test for a bigger one i am doing for ryan tatar's superblog "shakas and singlefins" the link is to you right. click it search it, and buy some prints from him. ryan, we are getting you to asbury park this summer, word up. this one is canvas, rice paper, resin and a tongue and groove piece of driftwood. the frame (going on today) is from a broken futon I found in the garbage this summer that has been marinating on my roof for the past 3 months... enjoy...

logo work has begun for a possible showing on some boards in the future. i'll keep you up on it.

summer in the salted
“My whole life is escape. My whole life is this wave. I drop into em, set the whole thing up, pull up the bottom turn, pull up into it and shoot for my life, going for broke, man …and behind me all the shit goes over my back - the screaming parents, teachers, police, priests, politicians, knee boarders, windsurfers. They’re all going over the falls head –first into the fucking reef and I’m shooting for my life and when it starts to close out I pull out through the bottom or out the back…and I pick up another one and do the same goddamn thing !”

KNOW YOUR HISTORY.
third year anniversary of the velzy paddle out. maybe someone will show up this year other than me.
i'm trying it again. i'm buying the 6 pack of budwiser, and again anyone who wants to come is welcome.
meet at the labrador 10 min. before going up the road. and be sure to spill one out if you can't make it. anybody doubting the genius and brute work force of dale velzy really needs to check the facts and read up on the og shaper/celebrity.

eye the dye
all of a sudden the light bulb went off... and while on a jaunt up north jersey i was able to stop by pearl and get some fabric dye.
they had some colors that MY local a&p did not have. so, what is a bored almost-spring boy to do?
ghetto fab-o-louicious. check back to see what, in a past blog, i have said i am going to try and complete with this dye. cross the fingers and get out the wallets, this one has the ability to be off the hook. forealdo

i guess...
i guess i'm over being that sick that i have had no urge to paint/draw or update till tonight...
i guess i'm still an asshole for not surfing on a 3 foot fun looking day cause you still need a 5 mil gloves and boots...
i guess phil collins is having a fucking good time somewhere...
i guess it has to be sooner than later that i birth this gyotaku stuff...
i guess i still love my local motion fish with the duct taped tail...
i guess spring will be here real, real soon...
i guess...
thanks to andy and josh from hippy tree for the talk and the sweatshirt, i'm adding your link so now you for sure got one more website hit... keep it up.

lightly salted in vermonty
we just got back from working and playing in stratton vermont, so sorry for the delays... rain and icy love, good for the footing and the soul.
first, i started a blog for the shop planned to be open may or june of 2008, on the boardwalk in asbury park, nj. lightly salted surf shop is the name, and the .blogspot is the place. i will update as concrete progress continues...
secondly, i have begun photo work on my fin love project hopefully having a place in a big white-walled gallery this summer. anyone out there interested in hearing more on it should contact me for the secret information that will impress, i hope. at least it is a good story with a long and interesting heritage. this is step one in a multi step process i have been hatching for some time now.
i've also been doing some painting, here is the genesis of that, i will update the progress as soon as i stretch the third canvas in the series. enjoy.

the rainbowed south
i'm still reeling from getting jolted back to reality and all the cold weather. i kinda wish i was still in the other continent, feeling that equatorial sun, and drinking those grande pilsners.
so i'd figure i'd get some more pics up, added to which i shot a pic of the namesake of this blog. here is a shot of my sweetness the rainbow hot-buttered single. she is a rocket and deserves to get surfed more than she does. but sometimes i have a problem with that...
i mean, i kinda don't want to break her in. sometimes i'd rather just take her down from the ceiling and feel the rails and imagine riding her every time there is waves. i guess that is why i have some beaters still around, to beat... i began work on the big canvas, i'll keep ya'll updated as she gets going.

ecu-a-dor-ieo
just returned from wonderful south america. have a word of ideas in my head and a bottle of water from the Galapagos for my new gyotaku prints. left points, right points, wonderful orange flowers, and crystal blue water. i will keep up on some work i did down there, printed a good heads or tails piece recently and am trying to get stuff going for this summer. just stretched a 8' canvas and got to get to work. i'll be posting...
thanks to david a mya from sweet surf ecuador for all the hook-ups. we will see you guys again.
